“GREEN” OFFICE POLICY

When we built our new facility in 2004, we were concerned about the impact such a structure would have on the environment. Wherever possible, in the selection of materials, we chose those products with the least negative impact. From wall board to cabinetry to the use of brick and durable plastics, we hoped to minimize our “carbon footprint”. We selected state of the art, energy efficient systems for heating and cooling and designed the structure with windows that open to take advantage of the seasons, thereby reducing energy consumption. Realizing that our environment is under siege, we have chosen to take additional steps to do as much as we can to reduce waste and increase recycling. To that end we have implemented the following measures:

  1. In our new facility, we have installed a “state of the art” heavy metal recovery system for the capturing of hazardous waste shown to be a danger to our sensitive ecosystem in Narragansett Bay. This material is disposed of by licensed agents.
  2. Recycling all paper and cardboard. (All sensitive materials are first shredded on site before disposal.)
  3. Recycling all plastic and metal.
  4. Using only “eco-friendly” products for cleaning and for the maintenance of the outdoor landscape.
  5. Switching to the use of low energy hand dryers in the bathrooms and common areas to eliminate the use of paper towels. (We are currently looking for a suitable substitute for paper toweling in the treatment areas)

We are hoping to add to these measures as newer products and better choices become available. Your comments and suggestions would be appreciated.
