Research conducted over the last few decades in both the dental and medical communities has established a definite connection between oral disease and general health. Dental disease, especially periodontal disease, has been associated with heart disease, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, kidney and liver problems as well as miscarriage and low birth-weight babies. While this has come as no surprise to the dental profession, the growing evidence of this “mouth / body” connection has the entire health community looking at the impact of good dental health in a different light.
